Mark 1 Helmet with Original Issue Helmet 1917 Pattern Cover
Category:
£875.00
A very good example of the MK1 steel helmet and its issue tan Khaki Drill cover. The helmet chinstrap is damaged as shown otherwise the helmet is sound. The cover is of multiple piece construction with three sets of paired eyelets whose purpose is to secure the neck curtain to the helmet. a bit of fraying to one part of the cover as photographed. This pattern most likely introduced in 1917 at the same time as the Khaki Drill Curtain sealed 17/4/1917. The covers seem to have been issued more widely in warm climates, the unit produced sandbag types more often seen on the Western Front. The last photo (courtesy of a private collector) shows the issue cover being worn in Italy in 1918 with and without curtain. Split payment available on this item please contact me first.
