Boer War Emergency Ration

An original Emergency Ration introduced during the Boer War. One end contained concentrated beef the other cocoa paste. They were only to be opened on the orders of a Commissioned Officer. They were carried in a specially designed pocket of the issue haversack. Originally covered in a blue lacquer with two paper labels to indicate the contents. A good example can be found on the Northumberland Fusiliers Museum Website. This example retains some blue lacquer tin the recesses but is missing the ring pull. I have reflected this in the price.
